Cover image by Chenlin Hu on pages 26–42. The cover illustrates the levels of geologically stored CO₂ within deep saline aquifers, highlighting the migration and trapping of injected CO₂ within subsurface rock formations. The CO₂ enters porous reservoir layers beneath the surface where it is contained by the overlying caprock, while long-term storage is facilitated by structural trapping of residual dissolved minerals. The magnified views illustrate fluid interactions within the pore network of the rock. The cover provides a systematic examination of the mechanisms associated with CO₂ storage, together with an assessment of geological conditions and evaluation methods, offering scientific insights into the development of safer and more efficient geological carbon storage.
