    (5) Major theoretical progress and case studies of geo-energy

All submitted manuscripts will be blind-reviewed and the accepted papers will be published monthly.

Peer Review Process

This journal follows a single-blind peer-review workflow using its established online submission and review system.
Once a manuscript is submitted, it is initially checked by the journal’s editorial office to ensure the files are complete, the relevant metadata is in order, the language is of an appropriate standard, and the content does not include an unreasonable level of duplication from already published articles. At that point, the Editor-in-Chief performs an initial assessment of the quality of the article and that it fits the specified scope of the journal before inviting a number of several potential reviewers with suitable expertise to provide peer-review reports. The Editor-in-Chief is entitled to reject any manuscript that is deemed to be unsuitable before reviewing. All manuscripts deemed to be of potential interest are ultimately assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers their subject expertise. The identity of the reviewers invited and delivering peer-review reports are anonymous to the authors at all stages.

Under the guidance of the reviewers’ comments and recommendations, the Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the final decision on each manuscript regarding revision, acceptance or rejection of articles.

Publication Frequency

Advances in Geo-Energy Research was launched in 2017. It was published in four issues per year from 2018 to 2021. The journal has been published bi-monthly in 2022, and will be published monthly in 2023.

Open Access Policy

Advances in Geo-Energy Research is a gold open-access journal, this means:

Advances in Geo-Energy Research adopts a zero-tolerance policy regarding cases of plagiarism, data falsification, image manipulation, and inappropriate authorship credit. All the submitted papers are checked for duplication from existing publications using relevant software.

The following guidelines outline the publishing ethics and responsibilities adopted by Advances in Geo-Energy Research, and imposed upon its authors, peer reviewers and editors. The papers submitted to this journal must abide by the following principles:

 (1) Simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to more than one journal is not tolerated.

 (2) A submission translated from already published papers in other languages is not permitted. Moreover, republishing/splitting of the same research is not tolerated.

 (3) Any possible conflict of interest of the author(s) must be clearly disclosed at the point of initial submission.

 (4) Data and methods used in an article should be presented to a level of completeness that enables other researchers to replicate their findings.

 (5) Papers should accurately present their research findings and include an objective discussion of the significance of their findings.

 (6) If some inaccuracies are found after publication, the authors need to promptly contact the journal and submit a formal corrigendum.

 (7) Manuscripts should where possible not contain any elements that have already been published, including figures and images. If they wish to do so, the necessary permissions from the copyright holder should be obtained.

 (8) Data fabrication, plagiarism, and image manipulation are not tolerated.

 (9) If irregular image manipulation is identified and confirmed during the peer review process, the manuscript will be rejected. If irregular image manipulation is identified and confirmed after publication, we may correct or retract the paper.

 (10) Plagiarism includes copying text, ideas, images, and data from another source, without giving due credit to the original source.

 (11) Reuse of text that is copied from another source must be between quotes and the original source must be cited.

 (12) If plagiarism is detected during the peer review process, the manuscript will be unconditionally rejected. If plagiarism is detected after publication, the paper will be retracted.

 (13) On submissions of a paper, all authors will be expected to confirm their involvement and verify their affiliations. Any malpractice in this regard, e.g. providing false affiliations or including authors without their consent, will lead to papers being rejected or retracted.

 (14) On submissions of a paper, all sources of funding must be accurately and fully disclosed. Any malpractice in this regard, e.g. failing to acknowledge funding sources or misrepresenting financial support, will lead to papers being rejected or retracted.

 (15) Prior to acceptance and publication, the specific contributions of all the listed authors to a paper must be clearly explained. Individuals that have not made any contributions to the paper must not be included as authors. Editors may reject papers if they consider that one or more of the authors has not been involved in the preparation of a paper.

Anyone who believes that research published by Advances in Geo-Energy Research has not been carried out in line with these principles should formally submit their concerns to the Editor-in-Chief, or send them via email to md-office@yandypress.com. Any allegations of publication misconduct will be carefully assessed by the journal’s office and the concerns raised communicated to the authors, and the authors’ institutions and funders, if necessary. If evidence of misconduct is found, appropriate action will be taken to correct or retract the publication.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy Guidelines

This policy outlines the regulations on generative AI technologies for authors, reviewers, and editors. We continuously review and update these rules as AI technologies evolve.

For Authors

AI in Writing

  • Permitted Use: Generative AI may only be used to improve language, grammar, and readability under human supervision.
  • Responsibility: Authors must carefully review all AI output. AI cannot be held liable for errors, and final accountability rests with the authors.
  • Disclosure: Authors must declare AI usage in the manuscript, which will be included in the published article.
  • Authorship: AI tools cannot be listed or cited as authors/co-authors. Authorship requires human capabilities, including legal responsibility, original contribution, and submission approval.

AI in Figures and Images

  • General Prohibition: AI cannot be used to generate, modify, or manipulate research images/artwork (e.g., adding, removing, or obscuring features). Standard contrast/brightness adjustments are allowed if original data is preserved.
  • Methodological Exception: If AI is part of the research design (e.g., biomedical image processing, the application of AI in education), its use must be detailed in the Methods section (including model name, version, and developer). Raw images must be provided upon request.
  • Artwork: AI-generated graphical abstracts are generally prohibited. Use of AI tools for visual content (including cover art) requires prior permission from the editorial office. Authors must explicitly detail how AI was used and ensure that the generated images maintain scientific accuracy and integrity.

For Reviewers

  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must not upload manuscripts, review reports, or related materials into AI tools, as this breaches confidentiality and data privacy.
  • Writing Restrictions: Reviewers are strictly prohibited from using AI tools to edit, polish, or rewrite their review reports.
  • Human Judgment: AI cannot be used to evaluate papers or generate review reports. Critical assessment requires human expertise. As an exception, reviewers may use privacy-compliant LLMs solely to assist in understanding the manuscript or exploring background research. However, the core evaluation, decision-making, and substantive writing of the review report must strictly remain human tasks and cannot be delegated to AI.
  • Quality & AI Screening: The editorial office will check review reports for AI-generated content metrics and evaluate the overall quality and authenticity of the review.
  • Author Disclosure: Reviewers can find author AI disclosures near the reference section of the manuscript.

For Editors

  • Confidentiality: Editors must not upload manuscripts, decision letters, or editorial communications into AI tools.
  • Editorial Decisions: AI cannot be used to evaluate submissions or draft decision notices. Final editorial responsibility rests with the editor.
  • Policy Breach: Editors should report suspected violations by authors or reviewers directly to the publisher.

Suggestions and Complaints

Authors may submit suggestions or formal complaints regarding editorial decisions, processing delays, or publication ethics concerns, et al.

Procedure: Appeals must be submitted directly to the Editorial Office with supporting rationale and will be handled in accordance with COPE guidelines.

Post-Publication

Research Misconduct

We rigorously investigate all allegations of publication misconduct—including plagiarism (text-recycling, mosaic plagiarism), duplicate publication, and data or image manipulation—in accordance with COPE guidelines. Proven violations may result in manuscript rejection, formal retraction, institutional notification, or public penalty notices. Genuine differences of opinion or honest errors do not constitute misconduct and will be corrected accordingly.

Post-Publication Procedures

Post-publication critiques or concerns regarding published papers may be submitted to the Editor. If research integrity is questioned, the journal will conduct an investigation (typically within 30 days) in consultation with relevant parties. Depending on the findings, the process will result in no action (if allegations are unsubstantiated), a formal Correction (erratum) linked to the original article, or a Retraction per COPE Retraction Guidelines.
