Cover image by Tuo Chen on pages 156-171. The image illustrates the seismic damage and dynamic support of roadway surrounding rock based on reconstructive transverse and longitudinal waves.Three key challenges are involved: seismic wave decomposion and reconstruction method, damage characteristics of roadway surrounding rock, and "zoned and asymmetric" dynamic support method for the roadway.

Cover image by Han Wang on pages 106-116. The image illustrates the oil-water two-phase flow behaviors in nanoporous media after hydraulic fracturing of shale oil reservoir. The different slip velocities of oil and water flow on different mineral surfaces are taken into account during the flow process.

    Vol. 9 No. 1 (2023)

Cover image by Jifang Wan on pages 54-67. The image illustrates the primary construction process of salt caverns for compressed air energy storage. The underground construction of salt caverns mainly involves three key technologies: large-diameter drilling & completion and wellbore integrity, solution mining morphology control and detection, as well as evaluation of factors affecting cavern tightness.

Cover image by Yiqun Zhang on pages 181-192. The image illustrates the cavitation collapse process near and on attached walls, analyzes the shock wave and microjet generation mechanisms, and provides initial insights into the cavitation damage under different standoff distances. These findings lay a theoretical foundation of high pressure water jet drilling technology.

    Vol. 8 No. 2 (2023)

Cover image by Jinsheng Sun on pages 112-125. The image illustrates the plugging mechanism of self-healing gel in formation fractures. After the self-healing gel particles migrate to the leakage channel, the self-healing gel particles form a new three-dimensional polymer network structure through the dynamic chain, and self-heal into a whole gel to effectively plug the leakage channel.

    Vol. 8 No. 1 (2023)

Cover image by Xin Nie on pages 5-18. The image illustrates the application of deep learning methods in digital rock technology. With the known digital rock image data as the input, deep learning methods such as convolutional neural networks can help in generating various output data, including higher resolution images, multi-component images, and rock permeability.

    Vol. 7 No. 3 (2023)

Cover image by Ruina Xu on pages 189-198. The image illustrates the salt precipitation behavior during CO2 geological storage in saline aquifers. The heterogeneity of reservoirs can avoid the local aggregation of salt near injection wells, thereby mitigating the effect of salt precipitation on injectivity. Meanwhile, salt is also preferentially precipitated in the fracture.

    Vol. 7 No. 2 (2023)

Cover image by Kaiqiang Zhang on pages 132-135. Tight and shale reservoirs contain numerous nanopores of molecular size. The reduced pore scale results in the restricted free thermal motion and the enhanced intermolecular interactions, which induces the fluid phase to behave much differently. Understanding the deviated phase behavior at nanoscale contributes huge implications for unconventional hydrocarbons exploration and development.

Cover image by Yuan Wang on pages 28-38. The image illustrates the reliability study of elastic graphite packers during the heat injection process of in-situ conversion mining heaters. When the downhole temperature is stable, the downhole pressure has the most obvious effect on the seal reliability of the packer, while the change of the rubber height has the least effect on the seal reliability.
